Land and buildings near Waltham, Canterbury, Kent offer a chance to share farm about 30 acres of pasture land with a range of farm buildings and a small herd of rare breed cattle.
There is also the option to graze the successful applicant’s own livestock. The land and buildings form a single parcel of permanent pasture, divided into a number of paddocks. The fields have water supplies, are well fenced and the boundaries are maintained.
There is a range of farm buildings on site which are currently used for housing the cattle and also the storage of feed and machinery.
The successful applicant will be able to graze their own livestock and use the livestock buildings. It is a requirement that the applicant will also manage the husbandry of the small herd of existing White Park cattle.
This breed of cattle is registered as a rare breed and so their conservation is of great importance. Experience of working with cattle and good animal husbandry is a prerequisite.
There are currently 11 breeding cows on the farm although the owner would be willing to reduce this number if required. The owner will also continue grazing a small number of horses.
The share farming agreement provides the opportunity for the applicant to farm their own livestock, but also to deal with the husbandry and management of the existing small herd of cattle. In addition, the applicant will take most of the gross receipts from the sales of progeny of the existing herd.
The land owner will provide the cattle, land, buildings and some machinery. The applicant will be responsible for managing and maintaining the herd, and also to supply feed and bedding.
The buildings are in a good state of repair and the land is in good agricultural condition. The owner will keep all hedges, fences and gates in good repair. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring that the livestock are kept in good condition in accordance with good husbandry requirements and current welfare standards.
