County Insurance Services Ltd who specialise in farm insurance, have been reminding clients of the importance of additional security measures following a reported 30% increase in the theft of generators and a 26% increase for attachments.
The report shows that in the first six months of the year, the South East has reported the highest number of agricultural construction plant thefts. At 35% of total reports UK wide, this is 22% more than the next highest number of reports seen in Yorkshire and the North East.
Tracey Morrison, claims manager at County, said: “As the first to hear about stolen machinery, I know how distressing a theft can be. Farmers need to consider additional measures they can take that will help safeguard their valuable assets. These measures can be data tags and immobilisers, electric gates, CCTV and security lighting on your yard amongst others.”
She added: “Of course, putting additional security measures in place is the best way to prevent against theft and the disruption it causes. Sadly as the report demonstrates, theft is an issue farmers continue to face, however, with preventative measures coupled with a comprehensive insurance policy, it can help them gain greater peace of mind and keep farmers farming.”
