West Sussex-based organic farming and waste management company, The Woodhorn Group has been announced as a runner-up at the Farm of the Year awards presented by the Organic Milk Supplies Co-operative (OMSCo).

OMSCo is the longest established and largest organic dairy cooperative in the UK, managing 65% of the UK’s organic milk supply. The OMSCo awards seek to reward and recognise farms that deliver against high standards for healthy, organic milk production and farmers who embrace change and innovation. Judged by key industry representatives, the prestigious awards are a huge achievement for The Woodhorn Group within the dairy industry.

John Pitts, managing director of The Woodhorn Group said: “To be considered amongst the best three OMSCo farms is an extraordinary compliment. There are some amazing organic farms doing some ground-breaking work and only fellow organic farmers can really appreciate the challenges farming organically present.

Winning or not is irrelevant – being nominated by a fellow member and then being shortlisted is a great honour and I am very proud of this. It is a huge testament to the hardworking farm team and everyone else who makes Woodhorn what it is.”

While organic dairy farming remains the core enterprise of The Woodhorn Group, the farming firm has diversified to include a sustainable Waste Management operation and its Earth Cycle range of high-quality peat free composts and soil conditioning products. Both the additional activities and award reflect the group’s commitment to organic, environmentally friendly and sustainable farming and the high quality standards of OMSCo.
