The Ploughing Seminars were a great success and aim to improve competition ploughing judges and aid ploughmen and women with hints and tips of exactly what the judges are looking for. The seminars held this spring were in Herefordshire, Kent and Oxfordshire and were led by judges who are all experienced at international and world level ploughing. Plans are already in place for more next year.
Sue Frith, chief executive of the Society of Ploughmen, said: “We receive lots of feedback from the seminars from people who enjoy it and don’t realise just how much they can learn. We’ve held over 30 seminars over the past few years aiding hundreds of judges and ploughmen who are using their knowledge at local ploughing matches up and down the country”.
The Society is also hoping that many of them will put their skills into practice if they are invited to judge at this year’s British National Ploughing Championships which are to be held on 12-13 October 2019 at Nocton, near Lincoln by kind permission of Beeswax Dyson Farming. Almost 60 judges will be needed over the two days of the event where they will be assessing the skills of around 250 ploughmen and women looking to win various championship titles.
