Donna Ashlee, assistant principal explains: “Brockhill has a thriving school farm, set up in the 1940’s and we know that many of our past pupils now work in the land based sector – we are trying to reach out to them to ask them to sign up to our alumni project, I have recently been given a huge archive of old photographs that we’d love to share across the network as a starting point – maybe a South East Farmer reader is in them?”
The school wants former students in established careers and recent leavers in further education, alumni who live nearby and those who have moved away, to sign up to its network. The networks aim is to motivate young people as career and education role models, mentors, work experience providers, governors and fundraisers.
Donna said: “We’d love to be able to invite past Brockhillians back to have a look around our Farm and to share history and stories with us at an event in the summer.”
Christine Gilbert, executive chair of Future First and a former Ofsted chief inspector, said; “Every state school student should have the opportunity to succeed in life after school, regardless of their background. If students see ‘people like me’ have succeeded, they are more likely to believe they can too. They work harder and have higher expectations of success. We want more schools to see the benefits of using their alumni as a powerful resource.“
